Murine Microbe Collection

The Navarre Lab is collaborating with Drs. Emma Allen-Vercoe (Guelph), Dana Philpott (UofT Immunology), and Thomas Clavel (Aachen) to establish a large collection of murine-associated intestinal microbes. The eventual goal is to have the ability to generate custom and defined microbiota to mimic specific phenotypes.

In total between our labs we have isolated well over 100 species, many of which have never before been cultivated. We intend to make many of these microbes available to both academic and industry partners through DSMZ, the CIHR-funded Canadian Microbiome Core (IMPACTT) maintained at the University of Calgary by Dr. Joe Harrison by fall of 2019.

Select microbes from our Canadian collection are being added to the growing MiBC collection started and maintained by Dr. Thomas Clavel at the Institute of Medical Microbiology, RWTH University Hospital, Aachen. These microbes will be available through the DSMZ culture repository.

We are submitting the genomes of our isolates to NCBI under BioProject ID# PRJNA474907. Assemblies can be found here.

We will update this webpage with more information on our isolates and how they can be obtained as they become available.

For now – please contact Dr. Navarre directly if you would like any of these bacterial isolates.
